Christine Laquet – HD video, 4 min, 2026

Produced during Christine Laquet’s residency aboard the Schmidt Ocean Institute’s research vessel Falkor (too), off the coast of Patagonia, this video documents the recovery of a rubber glove colonized by sea stars several hundred meters below the ocean’s surface.
As the robot’s gripper moves in to retrieve it, it appears to offer the glove a handshake. This unintended gesture stages an encounter between a machine designed to explore the deep sea and a remnant of human activity. A subtle image of the Anthropocene, in which humans are revealed less through their presence than through the objects they leave behind.
